Sam Charles is an award-winning Google certified digital marketing expert with 6 years experience managing and executing successful cross-channel marketing campaigns. Complimenting her evolving knowledge of search marketing trends and algorithms, Sam is a competent social media strategist and an established content writer published on reputable websites and in best-selling magazines such as Vogue.
Sam is a lecturer for the Social Media and Digital Tools module on the BA (Hons) Advertising degree course at Falmouth University, ranked gold in Teaching Excellence Framework and the number 1 Arts University in the UK. Sam is also an approved supplier for the Cornwall Business Start-up and Coaching for Growth programmes by Oxford Innovation in partnership with Unlocking Potential (managed by Cornwall College) providing coaching and assistance to young companies and entrepreneurs in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.
The experience that Sam gained in both global and local agencies has been invaluable. She developed a range of skills to manage and deliver successful social media and search marketing campaigns for clients in a variety of sectors, both locally and internationally. Her extensive client portfolio includes working with 100+ B2C and B2B companies, both in-house and within agencies, for brands such as Argos, Thorntons, Victoria’s Secret, Eastpak, Accor, Emirates, Victoria Plumb and WoolOvers.
Armed with experience and drive, Sam launched Float Digital to support brands to increase their visibility in search engines and on social media platforms. The vision wasn’t just about offering affordable SEO to support local businesses though. Unfortunately, there are hundreds of SEO and social media myths floating around, giving the digital industry a bad name and daunting reputation. Through the means of content, training courses and consultancy, Float Digital aims to clear up misconceptions and demystify digital marketing so business owners can make better-educated decisions to grow their traffic. Float Digital has worked with over 30 brands in the first year of trading and is continuing to grow.
Sam Charles was invited to attend the UK Search Awards 2016 (in association with Bing). She was shortlisted for ‘Young Search Professional’ by experts on the judging panel from brands such as Microsoft, John Lewis, Sage, Icelolly.com, Matalan and Vodafone. Earlier this year Sam was published in The Drum ’50 Under 30′ 2017 list, celebrating young women making waves in the digital industry, alongside inspiring women such as Lizzie Barclay, Head of Marketing Marketing at Yahoo!; the judging panel consisted of experts such as Nishma Robb, the Marketing Manager at Google and Chair of Women@Google UK. Sam has also previously appeared in a Women in Search feature showcasing talented and prolific women in the search industry.
Alongside her career, Sam had the opportunity to develop her public speaking skills by delivering digital marketing and career seminars at events such as Unlocking Potential and Leading Women UK. In April 2017 Sam Charles delivered a 20-minute presentation to 3,500 delegates on ‘How to Incentivise Bloggers Without Buying Links’ at Europe’s largest search marketing conference, BrightonSEO. The session was named the ‘best talk’ on multiple occasions by industry professionals and was praised by the team at Debenhams. She was invited back to the following conference in September 2017 and delivered a talk on blogging and digital tools.
Sam obtained her Higher National Diploma and Bachelor’s degree (with honours) in Business Management and Marketing from Anglia Ruskin University, Lord Ashcroft School of Business, Cambridge. Prior to successful completion of her undergraduate program, Sam Charles attended Griffith University in Australia, ranked in the top 3% of universities in the world to study consumer psychology and behaviour. Sam Charles has also achieved a Higher Education Certificate in Advertising and a National Diploma in Art and Design. Sam is currently on the reserve list to study a two-year Master’s degree in Media and Communication Studies: Culture, Collaborative Media and Creative Industries via distance learning with Malmö University this September.
Sam is a motivated individual and this is apparent in her online projects, outside of her career. In 2014 Sam launched a blog. The platform became a space for exercising her digital knowledge, flexing her creative muscles and building relationships with brands. Over the past 3 years, the website has grown, and it was recently named in a list of the top 100 UK lifestyle blogs by Feedspot. The blog has more than 700 posts covering women’s fashion, beauty, interior design, health, and fitness. The blog generates enough revenue to pay her mortgage each and every month and has for the past two years.
